So pretty! Though it looks old-timey, this manhole cover is actually quite new–just a couple years old. You can read about the program to replace Montreal manhole covers and the symbols chosen for this brand-new design here.
Problem is, when you’re from a town with ugly, uniform, utilitarian manhole covers with no aesthetic value, you want to stop and photograph pretty ones or do a brass rubbing or something, which isn’t the safest street art activity in the world.
I also liked this street iron–the large rectangular plates that cover the City’s underground electrical access points. Transformers!
