We had dinner with some Québécois friends last week, and they gave us the most extraordinary gift: a bag full of stuff from Quebec and a box of “discoveries” to introduce us to French music, events, and culture. We’ve been having a blast opening up our decouvertes every day and learning more about La Belle Province.

The Québécois are very proud of their culture, and they are eager to share it with newbies like us. Our friends want us to be able to fully participate in QC living, so sharing their knowledge of significant local foods, history, gatherings, and entertainment makes a big difference in our ability to understand what’s going on around us (and to enjoy it more).

We were incredibly touched that anyone would make so much effort. We’ve been turned on to cool radio stations, watching quirky films, savoring local cheese and snacks. Tonight we’re checking out the local fondue!

We feel incredibly lucky to have friends here who care about our integration into Québec society. Thanks, mes gars!
Homework: what would you put in a bag of discoveries for someone moving to your town?

Wow, that’s action-packed! And very thoughtful, as one would expect from you. 🙂 (I should get us a tick-remover kit, unfortunately they are becoming more numerous here, even in parkspaces in the city.)
