Urban Tree Care

Tree bien!

Most streets in Montréal are lined with trees, and though there’s a fair amount of rainfall here, they still need water in the summertime.

This is how they water the trees in The Village, early in the morning before things heat up (in every sense). Beats using buckets:

They also have smaller tankers for watering the neighborhood’s many pocket parks. Each truck is manned by a couple City greenspersons, who hook their hoses to the truck and handwater each park.

I guess it’s not economically feasible to retrofit the multitude of microparks and trees with plumbed watering systems. It’s nice that there’s so much care given to keeping Montréal’s greenery alive and healthy. Creates jobs too, I imagine.

Not all is green in Montréal, however. Unfortunately many of the City’s ash trees are being removed due to a nasty bug.
