In Deuteronomy, the somewhat questionable assertion is made that one cannot live by bread alone.
With the assistance of our neighborhood boulangerie, we have been rigorously testing this hypothesis. Contrary to our expectations, our early findings have found that it is in fact true. For, in addition to baguettes and pain aux noix de grenoble1, there are croissants, chausson aux pommes2, chocolatine framboise3, and more!

This unassuming place mere blocks from us is run by Jean Yves, a friendly baker who has enriched our lives with spectacular products. We have visited several times, and not yet been disappointed.
It’s not just the fancy stuff, either. On a cold and rainy day, Manon brought home baguettes still hot from the oven, and friends, I tell you there is little in this world better than that.

1 pain aux noix de grenoble is walnut bread. Normally, I don’t like nuts in bread, but I felt compelled to buy a loaf, and it was very good. I failed to photograph it.
2 chausson aux pommes are also known as apple turnovers.
3 chocolatines are like croissants, except they’re not crescent-shaped, and they have a chocolate filling! In France, they’d be called “pain au chocolat.” The chocolatine framboise has chocolate and raspberry filling.
