Came from this place–La Brume.comptoir. It’s not the main cafe, but this little tiny counter tucked away among warehouses and factories on Rue Fullum in Rosemont.
(I’m sorry I don’t have photos of either the cafe or the scone, so I will describe as best I can.)
The counter was literally smaller than my walk-in closet at home, though behind I could see the big industrial baking ovens–and a disgruntled-looking chef/owner, but no matter.
The guy at the counter was very nice despite my horrid French, and I asked him to show me his favorite pastry in the jewelry-sized countertop display case.
“Sucré ou salé?” he asked–sweet or salty? I said, “Le meilleur!” (“the best one!”) I was handed a lavender and white chocolate scone.
I *hate* scones, they’re dry and dusty little bastards that seek to choke you usually, at least at most cafes around L.A.
This one, however, was divine.
Moist on the inside but with a crunchy crust, this scone changed my mind about what a scone could be. The flavors were subtle and delicious (and natural–there were real lavender flowers inside). After two bites I was a scone fan…at least, a fan of the scones at La Brume.comptoir.
So if for some weird reason you ever find yourself in this industrial corner of Rosemont and need a little coffee break, check out La Brume.comptoir–it’ll be worth your while. I’m definitely going back when we return to MTL.
In addition to yummy pastries (there was a chocolate thing I didn’t try that looked amaaahzing) you can also order lunch online, but carry-out only–there’s no room to eat inside, and disgruntled chefs need their privacy.
