On my morning walk, I came across the city’s tree squad in action.

They were upgrading a yard just down the street from us.

Two trucks, one excavator, five workers, and about ten minutes for a new tree to go in.
Based on the spacing between the trees along the street, I suspect there had been a tree in or near this location before. The municipality regularly removes damaged or unhealthy trees, but also plants new ones.

It’s not clear from the picture, but the new tree’s a Malus – a flowering crab apple. It should be quite beautiful in the springtime when it grows out.
