Bleeding Hearts

It’s Fête Nationale in Québec today–not to be confused with a federal holiday like Canada Day next week, which is Moving Day here in Québec (more on that soon). Québec considers itself its own nation and today it celebrates its French culture with a mash-up of SaintJean-Baptiste Day and francophone patriotism.

Speaking of patriotism, we have a lot we want to post about Montréal this week, but it seems wrong on what is essentially a national day of mourning for most of the people we know. We saw this coming; though prescience may lessen the shock, it doesn’t mitigate the pain.

So here’s a photo of some bleeding hearts from up the street. Layer whatever meaning on that you like. Though we’re becoming binational, we are U.S. born and bred and all this hurts very much.

Our hearts are with you. We’ll post again soon, once we come back up for air.
