Beurk! (Oh noes!)

We’re in our new place, and are getting adjusted. This is our second time renting a furnished apartment, and we’re discovering that different people define “furnished” in different ways. For example, this place has a full on wine closet but no toaster.

We’ve done some basic shopping and provisioning and are identifying all the relevant local grocery stores, pharmacies, ATMs, and pizza joints.

Of course, just one layer up from the bottom of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is bandwidth. While the apartment is “internet ready,” it takes the local cable company 5-10 business days to light the circuit. That’s if there’s already a cable connection; otherwise it’s two or three weeks for a technician to come out. Oh, and because the ice storm last week took out thousands of trees and miles of cable, technicians are running behind schedule.

In theory, we’re cable-ready, so soon we’ll be fully back online. Posts here on OCanaderp may be sparse for a bit, or text-only like this one, until we have more bandwidth than our phone connections.

Maybe with all the wine, it’s dangerous to use a toaster…? Hope the curse of the bandwith bandits will be lifted soon!
