Sylvain’s sister and parents have been visiting this weekend, so there has been excursions to many places: Île St. Hélène, Parc La Fontaine, Parc Mont Royal, and, of course, the Jardin Botanique!
The first hints of autumn have already made themselves known. The nights have been getting cooler, and there are some trees already starting to turn. But suddenly, we’re having an unseasonably hot spell. Many of the flowers at the garden have been baked into submission.
One plant that’s still quite showy is the amaranth. The garden has many, many colors of amaranth, difficult to capture.

I was worried that all of the rose mallow would have wilted before I could show them off, but some remained. Everyone was impressed.

As ever, the gardeners at the Jardin Botanique have arranged beautiful combinations of flowers and colors in ways that continue to be interesting as the seasons change.

Even if many of the flowers are gone, we saw a lot of wildlife like damselflies, tiny brown frogs, small chippy birds, and various turtles.
What was the high point for me was when we were looking at the lilac garden (and marveling that a few lilac flowers remain), this fine bird plopped down into the grass. It was not all that interested in us, but fluffed its feathers and then flew up to a low branch, where we spent some time regarding one another.
