Spring Colo(u)rs

Did I just mention that one of the advantages of our north/south migration is experiencing some seasons twice? Well, here’s some Springtime evidence of that.

At the botanical gardens, the magnolias are in bloom, and the Japanese garden has a variety of fruit trees still with blossoms: cherries, crabapples, and plum trees.

While some areas are still winterized, with water features drained and large planting areas still fallow, other parts of the garden are exploding with color.

The botanical garden is maintained by what I can only imagine are magical flower-faeries or high elves who artfully intersperse wildish stands of trees and shrubs with beds where each flower was deliberately placed.

There are also some kinds of flowers I haven’t seen before, like these European Pasqueflowers (relatives of Ranunculus!)

In keeping with the slightly supernatural character of the springtime, some of the colorful flowers aren’t content to stay in the beds where they were planted. This one, for example, fled to the low branches when we approached!

Outstanding!! Thank you for sharing this. Those Pasqueflowers are stunning…reminds me of anemones too. Well perhaps I need to plant some of those – love the vibrancy and contrast. Spring here really packs a punch!!
