Bug Season

It’s a hot summer, and the insects are flourishing. On my exploration of Parc Natural Bois-de-Saraguay, I inadvertently fed a lot of mosquitos, and the same happened yesterday at the Jardin Botanique (despite wearing repellant).

But not all the bugs are out to get us. There are bees, both the fuzzy native bumblebees and honeybees.

There are butterflies, too!

And my favorites, the dragonflies! I keep hoping to be able to photograph some in flight, but they’re too quick for me.

Thanks! I have a “travel” lens that goes near telephoto. Ideally, I’d have used a macro lens, but I don’t have one with me. A lot of bug photography involves trying to sneak up close, and then taking ridiculous numbers of pictures if you succeed in getting near enough. If you take ten or twenty pictures, one or two might be worth keeping 🙂
